oil drilling parts

Components of oil drilling rigs - each with a purpose At the top of it all... The derrick. The derrick is essential since it supports the drill and provides a secure place for workers to operate. The drill is connected to a heavy base (under the derrick) called a platform. Because it is required for the drill to be able to cut deeper into the earth, down where all that oil hangs out.

The drill bit is the most vital section of an oil drilling rig. The drill bit is what ends up actually grinding into the Earth. There are various types of drill bits available in the market. There are different drill bits for rocks and soil, they will use according to their types. Drill bits can be classified into one of two main types: roller cone drill and fixed cutter bits.

Essential Components for Successful Oil Extraction

The roller cone Bits are made with cones consisting of teeth which is the main differentiation compared to all other types. As the bit drills its way into soil, these teeth rotate. The teeth are typically made of a hard material such as tungsten carbide, known for its strength and ability to withstand the high temperatures generated by drilling. Fixed cutter bits, on the other hand are welded to one solid bit that does not move as it drills. Typically, these blades are diamond and will be more or less able to cut through anything that crosses their path due to it being one of the hardest materials on earth.

Drill bit: The drill bit is the critical part used to bore a hole in the ground. Once this is done, it leaves a hole for oil to flow up and out of where it can be captured. This is achieved by making the drill bit spin and with great force pushing it down. The casing becomes the walls of a hole with each layer below it, as more and more depth is drilled into the earth. The casing is a metal tube that stabilizes and protects the well.
